HETEROPOLY ACIDS (H.P.A.)

As typical heteropoly acids(HPA), there are phosphotungstic acid, silicotungstic acid, phosphomolybdic acid and all of these compounds have strong acidity and oxidizing power. In general, the acidity of each of these acids is stronger than that of the oxygen acid of each of these acids, respectively, under strong acidic condition, and these HPA have ability as a solid catalyst. The strong oxidizing power, especially that of molybdenum type HPA, facilitates these acids to function as a strong oxidizing agent. Thus, these acids easily oxidize other compounds, while rendering themselves to be reduced condition. The reduced HPA can easily be oxidized again by means of appropriate oxidizing agents, and they regain the ability as an oxidizing agent.

In recent years, HPA have come to attract attention as solid acid oxidizing agents, and various industrial catalysts using HPA have been developed and practically used. In order to manufacture high-quality HPA, the conventional process has been based on solvent extraction that uses a large amount of ether. However, this process has difficulty in safety for mass production in an industrial scale. We have developed a new technology based on non-solvent system, completed manufacturing facilities in an industrial scale for the first time in the world, and succeeded in supplying the products to the market.
